Fifteen years ago when I got my first job in
a law firm, I thrived on the
challenge of solving complex legal problems under tight deadlines pushing my analytical, negotiating
and organizational skills
to new levels. Today, I am more interested in helping my clients prevent legal
problems from
escalating to the point of crisis.
I earned my MBA/LL.B degree from
Dalhousie University and launched my legal career at a
corporate law firm
in Halifax in 1997, then moved onto Bay
Street in 1998. I continued working in Toronto, most recently at a large international bank, in
regulatory
risk
management for 10 years.
My experiences have taught me that the legal
profession has a circular dilemma. High hourly rates
discourage many from obtaining
preventative legal advice, then
neglected problems become
urgent, legitimately commanding higher fees for highly strategic
and time-intensive solutions.
My vision of an ideal practice
model solidified when I served as
the President of a Condominium that was forced into a costly
arbitration hearing that could have been mitigated with timely legal
advice.
In spring of 2010, I opened my law practice offering
reasonable, flat fee packages
wherever possible to encourage preventative approaches to legal
risk management.
My local practice also allows for the opportunity to
spend more time with my family, clients and work
within my
community, the Halton Region. You will find me on
the weekends hiking with the dogs through one of Conservation Halton's six
local conservation parks.
